Scrappage - The Latest News

Last few weeks!

It was due to end on the 28th Feb but has been extended into March. However, the funding is starting to run out so that each manufacturers is receiving a very limited allocation - please don't delay!

But time is running out now and rationing may start to begin shortly with each manufacturer only allowed a certain amount of deals, so don't delay!

3/ Must be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or Driver and Vehicle Agency in Northern Ireland (DVA) in your name
4/ Must have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
5/ Must have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C)
6/ Must have a current MOT test certificate before the date of order for the new vehicle (or within 14 days of expiry at the time of order)
7/ Must have a current tax disc before the date of order for the new vehicle (or within 14 days of expiry at the time of order)
8/ Must be insured when the order for the new vehicle is placed

The new vehicle you want to buy must be:

1/ a car or small van not exceeding 3.5 tonnes
2/ first registered in the UK on or after the 18 May 2009
3/ declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers
4/ a UK specification vehicle
5/ registered to the same registered keeper as the registered keeper of the eligible vehicle to be scrapped

The above information is extracted from the government web site at www.berr.gov.uk

Common question we get asked is whether SORN vehicles will qualify - the answer is NO. The car has to have the MOT and Road Tax requirements as above, so you will currently have to get it back on the road to scrap it!
(The government logic behind this is that a vehicle that is currently SORN may well end up being scrapped anyway and is in any case an old car which is 'off the road' and this is partly the aim of the scheme.)

Imported vehicle? It all depends on when it was first registered in the UK as the dates above still apply regardless of when it was actually manufactured.

How Do I Scrap The Car To Qualify?
The dealership must now organise that for you.

Please remember to take 3 good photocopies of your V5 document, a photocopy of your insurance certificate, a photocopy of your tax disc and a photocopy of your MOT certificate before scrapping the car as these will be required along with the Certificate of Destruction.

Give us a ring on 01896 750970 if you have any questions on the above or would like some more information with no obligation or sales pressure - guaranteed!

PLEASE NOTE: Make sure you fully understand everything involved before allowing your car to be scrapped of course!!
